Frequently Asked Questions

Can we paint________?

Odds are that you can. Whether it's a good idea or not is another story. We've painted just about everything over the years so we'll be able to tell you how it should be done and what you can expect as an end result.

What products do you use?

We use products from many different companies. We use the best product for the job. For most interior applications we use Benjamine Moore and ICI Paints. For exterior we use products from ICI and The Flood Company. We are constantly testing new products. If a better product is introduced you can be assured that we're using it. If you have a particular product you would like us to use we'll either use it or clearly explain why we would like to use another product. We have accounts with most major paint companies and check in regularly to see what the newest developments are. We have access to a wide variety of products.

How long will it take?

That entirely depends on what we are doing. We will let you know how long to expect the work to take when we do the quote for you.

How much will it cost?

Again, this entirely depends on what we are doing. Jobs range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. There is no way to know exactly until we give you a quote. We can, however, promise you that we have some of the most competitive pricing around, typically 15-20% less that the big professional companies. We are very good about keeping our costs under control and pass the savings on to you!

How do you determine the price?

The price is based on the amount of paint and labour needed to complete the work. When you are given a quote, that's the price you'll pay unless you add work for us or we come across a problem that could not have been seen during the quotation (eg. severe wood damage, mold or mildew, major failure of a previous paint job). The only service we don't give a fixed price on is wallpaper removal. We'll give you our best approximation but this process varies so drastically that it is impossible to know how difficult it will be until we've started.

Can I buy the paint?

Yes, but you'll probably pay more if you do. We get some of the best pricing in the industry and don't up-charge on paint. That means unless you have a really good insider's connection you'll probably pay more this way. Plus, by letting us taking care of the paint, you don't have to make trips to the paint store or wonder if you're getting the best product.

What kind of guarantee do you have?

We guarantee all of our services against failure due to workmanship. Most commonly this happens because the prep work was not done properly. Sometimes paint just doesn't adhere and we don't know why. We'll make sure that any problems like this are corrected. Moisture problems, surfaces that paint clearly can't adhere to and exterior metal applications are not covered under our warranty.

Paint failure due to moisture damage happens most often on eaves troughs and window sills. This is beyod our control. If there is an obvious risk of this happening we will explain it to you and suggest preventative measures.

Certain applications where the surface has oil or other substances that cannot be removed prior to painting are also void from our warranty because the application is not what the paint is designed for.

Exterior metal surfaces expand and contract so much in varying temperatures the paint sometimes just can't keep up. Problems with this are rare when the surface is properly prepared and we use the most flexible paint we can for the application. How well it will stick during a cold winter is beyond our control and therefore excluded from our warranty.

We very rarely have a warranty problem and take a great deal of pride in our great track record. You can be assured that we believe the best warranty is the one you don't have to use and strive to keep it that way!
